Government
Relations
Our attorneys are active in a number of
areas involving relations between government and
the business community. We work with
decision-makers and their staffs and have
developed professional relationships and
experience in the legislative and regulatory
representation area. We act as effective and
efficient advocates for public and private
clients in government relations
matters.
Through our Washington DC office, we
closely follow federal housing and community
development policies. The partner-in-charge of
our Washington office was Republican Staff
Director of the U.S. Senate Committee on
Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs under Senator
Brooke before entering private practice, and
previously served as Republican counsel for the
Senate Housing Subcommittee. He played a large
role in drafting a variety of legislative
housing programs. Another of our Washington
partners has a practice which focuses on housing
finance, and he regularly works with HUD. We
also work on sophisticated multifamily housing
financings and have a thorough understanding of
the most current tax credit and mortgage
financing techniques being used
today.
Our firm represents the Massachusetts
Bankers Association's interests before the
Senate Banking Committee. We have represented
National Savings Association with respect to
several matters before the Finance Committee and
has also represented the Savings Bank and Life
Insurance Company of Massachusetts concerning
legislative issues before the FDIC.
Our Washington office, working with our
Boston partners, has played an active role in
lobbying on environmental legislation,
particularly recent Superfund reauthorization
legislation. Working closely with the Associated
Industries of Massachusetts (AIM), we lobbied to
increase funding available for clean-up in
Massachusetts under the Environmental Insurance
Resolution Fund (EIRF), which was part of this
Superfund. Our environmental practice is among
the largest in the nation, and we can draw on a
broad range of skills and experience to
supplement Boston's environmental policy
initiatives in Washington.
In the biotechnology area, we have been involved with the
Governor's Task Force on Biotechnology and the
Governor's Council on Economic Growth and
Technology, Sub-Committee on Biotechnology and
Pharmaceutical Development. Our firm also has
represented the Massachusetts State Lottery
Commission, as well as a variety of businesses
in government relations
matters. |
